ERASMUS STUDENTS

Students at the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka have the opportunity to participate in three types of Erasmus mobility programs: the Erasmus Traineeship, Erasmus Study Mobility for a semester or full academic year, and the Erasmus Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP). These programmes enable students to enhance their academic and professional experiences through international opportunities, including study exchanges, hands-on clinical internships, and collaborative blended programs.

Guidelines for Erasmus Mobility

Students interested in Erasmus mobility for study exchange, traineeships, or the BIP must apply through the University of Rijeka’s official Call for applications. Erasmus study mobility

Students may opt for Erasmus study exchange either for one semester or a full academic year, allowing flexibility to fit the exchange into their academic and personal plans. Students participating in Erasmus Study Mobility have the following options:

Study Exchange for One Semester: This option allows students to experience a brief period of study abroad, typically for the winter or summer semester.
Study Exchange for the Full Academic Year: A year-long exchange provides a more immersive experience, enabling students to integrate fully into the host institution’s academic and social environment and often allowing a broader range of courses and learning experiences.

Students participating in the Erasmus study exchange for a one semester or a full academic year should follow these essential steps:

Selecting a Host Institution: Students must choose a host faculty or university from one of the Faculty’s partner institutions with which there is a bilateral agreement.
Curriculum Review and Course Selection: Before applying, students are required to review the curriculum at the chosen host institution. It is essential to compare it with the Faculty of Medicine’s curriculum to identify compatible courses that align with their home program.
Academic Consultation and Credit Transfer: Students are encouraged to consult the course coordinators to ensure that selected courses may be credited upon their return.

Incoming Erasmus students

For incoming Erasmus students, all relevant information regarding the academic calendar, curriculum, teaching, and exam terms can be found on the followinglink. Steps to Take After Nomination

Once officially nominated by their home institution, students must complete several steps to finalize their Erasmus mobility experience. Erasmus traineeship

The Erasmus Traineeship program provides students with the opportunity to gain professional experience abroad through traineeships in various sectors. This mobility option allows students to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings, enhancing their professional skills and broadening their international perspectives. Students can secure a traineeship placement independently, through intermediary agencies, or with assistance from the Erasmus coordinator at the Faculty of Medicine.

To begin the process, students should prepare a CV and a motivation letter when contacting potential host institutions where they are interested in completing their traineeship. These documents will help introduce the student to the organization and highlight their qualifications and reasons for seeking the opportunity.

The traineeship must last a minimum of 2 months (60 days), with a maximum duration of 12 months, and requires students to work at least 30 hours per week. Eligible host organizations include healthcare facilities, medical companies, academic institutions, research centers, and other legal entities across participating Erasmus+ countries.

A bilateral agreement is not required for Erasmus Traineeships, but an Acceptance Confirmation form, signed by the host organization, must be submitted with the application.

Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP)

The Erasmus Blended Intensive Programmes (BIP) provide a unique, flexible learning experience, combining online collaboration with a short-term, intensive mobility component. Students engage in joint projects with peers from other universities through online sessions and then participate in an in-person session at the host institution. BIP is ideal for students who seek international learning with a compact time commitment.
